about

This song has always touched my heart. Now that I know the story I love it even more: It was written in 1772 by a white man named John Newton, a slave trader who shipped slaves from Africa to England. After years of slave trading, he eventually had a change of heart following a near death experience and converted to the abolitionist cause. John Newton had an awakening. One small step in the right direction.
Dedicated to my father in law Rich Tamborski. 1934 - 2020.

I once was lost,
but now am found,
Was blind
but now I see.
